Viveka Guzman, MD, PhD(c)

Doctoral Student, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland

Viveka Guzmán is a medical doctor from Mexico and is currently pursuing a PhD in Population Health and Health Services Research at RCSI in Dublin, Ireland. Her PhD research focuses on the mental health of older populations during and in the aftermath of pandemics, utilizing a mixed-methods socio-ecological approach. She is also collaborating in research related to understanding how place and nature can support health and well-being. Before starting her current position, she had the opportunity to work in diverse rural and urban healthcare settings, and was involved in public health interventions for vulnerable groups. In 2016, she moved to Sweden to complete a master’s program in Global Health at the University of Gothenburg and became increasingly passionate about research and innovation on the socioenvironmental determinants of health. As a Planetary Health Campus Ambassador, she hopes her enthusiasm for advocacy and storytelling will build-up a movement in her university that ultimately contributes to bridging the gap between science and the individual, community, government, and policy actions needed to achieve sustainable planetary health. In her free time, Viveka loves cycling, swimming, attempting new yoga poses and using watercolors.
