Blessing Ugochi Ojembe, PhD

Dr. Blessing Ojembe, PhD, is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Social Work, University of Manitoba. Dr. Ojembe completed her Post-doctoral Fellowship and doctoral studies at McMaster University, Ontario, Canada. She is a Commonwealth scholar, a gerontological social worker, and a research affiliate with the Centre on Aging, University of Manitoba and Connected Minds York University. Her research interest focuses on understanding the experiences of aging, loneliness, inequalities, social exclusion, and cumulative disadvantages of Black older adults, compounded by their specific social locations such as race, age, gender, immigration status, and employment. Her research also addresses the representational intersectionality of Black older adults in policy, research and practice. Blessing has direct practice experience in aging and working with older adults and continues working with organizations to promote quality care provision for older adults and their families. Blessing is a co-founder and sits as the Vice Scientific Director, Grants and Scholarship of the Emerging Researchers and Professionals on Aging – African Network (ERPAAN) and continues to conduct aging research in the Sub-Saharan region of Africa.
