Judy Young, MPH is an educator and mentor, activist and advocate, and life-long learner. She currently serves as the Executive Director at the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health (CoE) and Co-Director of its Black Women’s Health & Livelihood Initiative. Judy brings a personal passion and multi-dimensional lens to her work of addressing health inequities, disparities and social change. Judy led the CoE’s Fostering Excellence in Women’s Health, a multi-year, multi-million dollar initiative enhancing academic-community partnerships across the national network of Centers of Excellence in Women’s Health. Under her leadership the CoE’s Young Women’s Health and Leadership Programs in partnership with the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) and other community organizations received a commendation from SFUSD and the UCSF University Community Partnerships Annual Excellence in Partnership Award. Judy is the inaugural co-chair of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences’ Diversity Committee and an inaugural member of the Dean’s Executive Advisory Board of the Differences Matter Initiative of the School of Medicine.

For her contributions to UCSF and beyond, Judy received the Chancellor’s Award for the Advancement of Women (2010) and the Chancellor’s Award Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Award (2017). Judy has taught health education at several Bay Area universities including U.C. Berkeley, San Francisco State and San Jose State Universities. She has served on the boards of Planned Parenthood, Rafiki Coalition (formerly the Black Coalition on AIDS), and the San Francisco Adolescent Health Working Group. Judy received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Welfare from U.C Berkeley and her Master’s Degree in Public Health from San Jose State University.
