Jerry Ouner, PhD, RN, MS
Jerry John Ouner (né Nutor) a tenured Associate Professor and registered nurse in the Department of Family Health Care Nursing with a joint appointment with Center for AIDS Prevention Studies at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). As a nurse scientist, his research goals are to develop new methods of improving healthcare for underrepresented segments of the population, such as rural and urban communities in sub-Saharan Africa. Dr. Nutor's academic training, clinical and research experiences over the decade have provided him with a background in social determinants of health as it relates to maternal and child health. He is particularly interested in mothers and children affected by the HIV epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The primary focus of his research is to understand the impact of environmental (e.g., water and food insecurity), social (e.g., stigma and social support) and economic (e.g., poverty) factors with particular focus on adherence to antiretroviral therapy and prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
