Paul Kleyman is the National Coordinator of the Journalists Network on Generations (JGN), which he co-founded in 1993. He edits its e-newsletter, Generations Beat Online. Kleyman was Director of the Ethnic Elders Newsbeat at New America Media/Pacific News Service for 9 years until 2017, and previously edited Aging Today, newspaper of the American Society on Aging, for 20 years until 2008. For JGN, Kleyman co-created the Journalists in Aging Fellows Program in 2010 with the Gerontological Society of America, for which he now serves as Senior Advisor. His 1974 book Senior Power: Growing Old Rebelliously (Glide Publications) was among the first general-press books on aging. In 2016, he was named an “Influencers in Aging” by PBS’s Next Avenue website. Also, that year, the California Elder Justice Coalition presented him its “Excellence in Reporting” award, and he also served as an Age Boom Academy fellow in journalism at Columbia University. Kleyman received the 2009 Distinguished Service to Journalism Award from the Society of Professional Journalists, Northern California, and a 2010 health-journalism fellowship from the USC Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism. Kleyman’s articles have appeared in a wide range of print and online publications, such as the Huffington Post, Salon, San Francisco Chronicle, Healthreporting.org, and AARP Bulletin. Kleyman has been widely interviewed or quoted by the New York Times, NPR Next Avenue, Columbia Journalism Review and the Association of Health Care Journalists.
