Ian Johnson, LCSW, PhD

Assistant Professor, Social Work, College for Health, Community and Policy, University of Texas at San Antonio

Ian is a social work practitioner, researcher, and educator focused on aligning housing and healthcare interventions with the lived experiences, needs, and desires of older adults. Ian has worked in various roles throughout New York City and Seattle with a diverse array of older adults and their loved ones, including LGBTQ elders, later-life immigrants, genocide survivors, and older adults in the "institutional circuit"-- moving between homelessness, institutionalization, and community housing supports. Ian is currently working with Harborview's Homeless Palliative Care team, the only known mobile palliative care team for the homeless in the United States, to identify the disparities that housing-challenged palliative care patients face in receiving care where desired and illustrate the current responses of aging and housing care systems to medical complexity and end-of-life among people experiencing homelessness.
