Fernando Antunez, MSW

Headshot of Fernando AntunezFernando Antunez is a recent graduate of UC Berkeley’s MSW program. They are the youngest of six children (five surviving) to a mother from Guerrero, Mexico and a father from Morelos, Mexico. After processing the devastation in their family following the passing of their mother, Margarita Hernandez, Fernando began pursuing research opportunities focusing on dementia care systems in historically marginalized communities and facilitation of grief in marginalized communities. Fernando has experience in research using Photovoice, motivational interviewing, and data visualization software (e.g. Tableau, Storymaps)

Fernando has multilevel practice as a clinical intern with the Community Mental Health clinic Casa Del Sol, La Clinica de la Raza in the Fruitvale section of Oakland and a community planning intern with Roadmap To Peace, Instituto Familiar de la Raza in the Mission District of San Francisco. Fernando is a CSWE Minority Fellows Program scholar, a UC Berkeley Latinx Center for Excellence in Behavioral Health scholar, and a UCLA Big Data for Justice scholar.
